    Summer 2019 After-school Program Descriptions:

    Na’Key

    Mining in Montana:

    “There’s gold in them there hills!” As well as sapphires, gems, pyrite and so much more! In this camp we will sift through dirt and rocks trying to strike it rich, just like an old time pioneer, all while learning about Montana’s rich mining history. Join us as we catch gold fever and dig deep for the big score!

     

    Summer Sports Camp:

    Calling all junior athletes to join us in some friendly competition as we participate in, and learn the rules of basketball, baseball and soccer! This camp welcomes kids at all skill levels. We will work on sportsmanship and playing for the love of the game.

    Remember to bring your sneaker and come join us for a fun and physical week!

     

    Hand Sewing:

    In this camp, students will be putting their creativity to the test by designing and creating their own stuffed animal! We will be using a variety of different fabrics, and learning how about different styles of stitching such as; running stitch, backstitch and chain stitch.

     

     

    Leanor

    Junior Space Camp:

    Join us as we travel into space and explore its outer limits. In this camp we will learn about all the wonders of outer space, explore the solar system, and discover what makes each planet unique.

     

    Wood Working:

    Attention all junior carpenters and wood workers! Come join us in designing, building and decorating your own frame plant stand. Campers will paint, drill, glue and assemble their wood projects bring them home on Wednesday. We will be using hand tools in this camp. Please wear painting clothes.

    Attention all junior carpenters and wood workers! Join us in another week of designing, building, decorating, and working with wood. This week we will be building your own bookcase. Campers will paint, drill, glue and assemble their wood projects bring them home on Wednesday. We will be using hand tools in this camp. Please wear painting clothes.

     

    Wood Working:

    Attention all junior carpenters and wood workers! Please join us for the last week of designing, building, decorating, and working with wood. For our last project, we will be building a bird house! Campers will paint, drill, glue and assemble their wood projects bring them home on Wednesday. We will be using hand tools in this camp. Please wear painting clothes.

    Fun with Fabrics:

    In this camp we will be working with fabrics and learn how to make t-shirt bracelets, no sew pillows, and a no sew octopus just to name a few! We will be busy working with our hands while we discover all the cool things we can make without using a needle and thread.

     

    Art around the World:

    If you have an appreciation for art and enjoy exploring other cultures, or if you just love doing art projects then this camp is for you! Join us as we dive paintbrush first into foreign countries, like, France. Each day we will investigate a different country, learning about their culture, art, and other interesting facts.

     

    Animals from National Parks:

    Join us as we learn about some of the animals that call our national parks home. We will do projects on each animal we learn about, discuss their natural habitats, discover what foods they eat, and much more! In this camp we will prepare for our fieldtrip to Glacier National Park, and maybe even see some of these animals… from a distance!

     

    Ghosts of Montana:

    Do you fancy of yourself a junior ghost hunter? Have you ever felt the chill of a ghost? Or maybe you just enjoy hearing a good scary story? If any of these sounds like you, then this camp is right up your alley! Join us as we discover ghost towns in Montana, hear firsthand accounts of ghost sightings, and learn about all the haunts Montana has to offer. 

     

     

    Autumn

    Paper Crafting Masters

    This isn’t your mother’s origami. We will be making ninja stars, and even fidget spinners, all out of paper. All of the classic paper folding favorites from fortune tellers, to animal corner bookmarks are also included. This is the perfect way to impress all your friends.

     

    Cross Stitch Crazy

    Join the counted cross stitch craze that’s sweeping the nation. This instructor has been working with needle and thread for over 20 years, so come learn all the beautiful and handmade works of art that even the youngest of children can make.  This is a needlework skill that is also proven to improve math skills.

     

    Art of Nature

    Your kids will learn how to create beautiful masterpieces out of Montana’s natural resources.  This will help awaken every child’s natural sense of creativity and urge to create art from everyday objects.  There is no better way to recycle than to turn a broken branch into a beautiful wind chime.

     

    Tiny Picasso’s

    This camp will be entirely devoted to the wonderful methods of making life more colorful - PAINTING. Each day is dedicated to a different medium: watercolor, acrylic and even making your own scratch art! We will learn about all of the masters and eras of art.

     

    Jewelry Making 101

    In this camp we will experiment with a multitude of jewelry making techniques including beading, wire wrapping, recycled jewelry and paper bead making.  We will make beaded bracelets, Lake Glass pendants, and much more!

     

    Wizarding World of Harry Potter

    Welcome wizards, one and all.  This camp will be entirely dedicated to all thing Harry Potter and Magical Beasts.  You will be sorted into Hogwarts houses, brew our own Butterbeer, and make our own wands and quills. We will culminate the camp with a viewing of the original movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

     

    Mad Scientists

    If you enjoy science, you will love this camp!  Join in the fun of making glow-in-the-dark slime, lava lamps, elephant toothpaste, giant bubbles, home-made hovercrafts and much, much more.

     

    Bullet Journaling

    The basics of bullet journals are organizing information.  Teaching kids to keep records and lists in a creative way helps them to see their progress and take responsibility for their productivity in a fun way.  It’s also a fun great way to turn doodles into useful records. Learn how to keep record of your dreams and daily life.  This is a way to keep your memories written down for future enjoyment.

    Calendar Camp:

    In this camp, students will learn how to scrapbook and create a personalized 2019-2020 calendar.  Students will be able to use scrapbooking tools such as a Cricut (die cut machine), embossing machine, stickers, paper, scissors, etc….  They will be able to write in important dates from the Polson School calendar such as no school days. Send your child(ren) with a list of important dates, like birthdays and family events, and we will include them!

    Junior Space Camp:

    In this camp we will learn computer coding and computer science. We will be using code.org to discover the basics of computer science and coding. Campers will learn how to code their own games and make computer generated animations.

     

    Pollinating Montana:

    Join us as we spend a week learning about bees and butterflies through art, science and engineering. In this camp we will explore some native Montana plants and how important bees, butterflies and other insects are to the food we eat and the beauty we see every day!

     

     

    Hailey

    All About Animals:

    All About Animal will be a fun education camp where campers will learn about animals, do fun crafts, games, plus discover which animals are endangers and how we can help. We will even adopt an endangered animal, providing support for it to continue to live in its nature habit.  This will be a great way for kids to get interested in nature, and learn about animals around the world through activates and crafts, and even a guest speaker. This camp will feature real animals!

     

    Montana History:

    Did you know that Helena was not the first capital of Montana? Do you know what ORO-Y-PLATA stands for on the Montana flag? Would you be able to tell your teacher what year The National Bison Range was established? If you know the answers to any of these questions, or you would like to learn them, join us as we will discover the fascinating history of Montana! This camp will be educational and fun.

     

    World Wide Awareness:

    Did you know that fish and other marine life often can’t tell the difference between plastic and food? Or that half of the world’s tropical rainforests have already been cleared? Are you aware that the average person generates over 4 pounds of trash every day? In this camp we will learn all about the pollution in our world and how we can help stop it. Join us as we learn about things and problems you probably didn’t even know existed. This will be a great camp for kids who want to help the world and its environment!

     

     

     

    Tristan

    Candy Camp:

    Attention all candy lovers, we have a scrumptious camp for you! Join us as we learn how to make a variety of candies, such as homemade Reese’s cups. In this camp we will discover what candies we can made using ingredients that can be found around your house, and make a different type of delicious candy each day.

     

    PVP Pipe Projects:

    In this camp, campers will be using PVC piping to design and make cool projects such as a marshmallow blow gun! This camp is going to be fun and action packed, especially when we have a marshmallow war on Wednesday! Join us in this fun engineering camp.

     

    Rockets:

    Did you know that the heat produced by a rocket in the first moments after lift-off could heat 85,000 homes for a full day? Or that the first rocket prototypes were arrows with explosives attached or arrows propelled by gunpowder? Join us in a week of exploring space travel, where we will make our own rockets. We will have a contests to see which rocket launches!

     

    Summer Reading:

    Join us in spending the week reading by the lake, under a shade tree, or even on a pile of pillows. Each camper will pre-choose a book (at their level) that they will read reading during camp, and at the end of the week campers will bring their book home with them. When registering for this camp, please include the name and author of the book the camper would like to read. If you would like it to be a surprise, please leave it blank.

     

     

     

    Deer Lodge:

    Visiting the old Montana State Prison! You are signed up for this when you sign up for your camp above.  This Thursday we will be traveling to Deer Lodge, MT where we will visit the Old Montana State Prison, Montana Auto Museum, and the Frontier Montana Museum. Join us in discovering some Montana history and maybe see a ghost?

     

    Philipsburg:

    Sapphire hunting in Philipsburg! All campers will be going on this adventure on Thursday! You are signed up for this when you sign up for your camp above. This Thursday we will be travelling to Philipsburg where campers will get to partake in a real Montanan experience, mining for sapphires! We will also be visiting the World Famous Sweet Palace Candy Shop.

     

    Glacier Park:

    Hiking in Glacier National Park! All campers will be going on this adventure on Thursday! You are signed up for this when you sign up for your camp above. This Thursday we will be hiking along the shores of Lake McDonald. This hike is level and in the trees with great views of the Lake and will be about 3 miles round trip. After our hike we will visit the Discovery Cabin, then return to Lake McDonald where we will swim (optional) and play games.

     

    Flying Squirrel:

    Jumping around at the Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park in Missoula! You are signed up for this when you sign up for your camp above. This Thursday we will be traveling to Missoula where we will start our adventure by visiting the Missoula Carousel and Dragon Hollow Park. Then after lunch, we will head over to the Flying Squirrel indoor trampoline park where we will jump, drive in the foam pit, and see what kind of parkour we can do!  Please remember to bring extra water, walking shoes, and sunscreen.

     

    Woodland Waterpark:

    All campers will be going on this adventure on Thursday! You are signed up for this when you sign up for your camp above.  We will be traveling to Kalispell to eat lunch at the Woodland Park, play and feed the local fowl. Next we will walk next door and enjoy the water slides and swimming pool at The Woodland Water Park! Please remember to bring extra water, your bathing suit and SUNSCREEN!

     

    Camp Tuffit:

    Enjoying recreational fun at Camp Tuffit! All campers will be going on this adventure on Thursday! You are signed up for this when you sign up for your camp above. This Thursday we will be traveling to Camp Tuffit in  Lake Mary Ronan where campers can partake in summertime activities such as; fishing, swimming, volleyball and boating just to name a few.

     

    SpectrUM & Planetarium:

    Visiting the Planetarium and exploring the SpectrUM in Missoula! You are signed up for this when you sign up for your camp above. This Thursday we will be traveling to Missoula where we will start our adventure by learning about the starts at the University Planetarium. After lunch we will head over to the SpectrUM Science Museum. Once there we will explore the Large River Ecosystem, SciGirls DigiZone, Discovery Bench and the Big Sky Brain Project exhibits.  Please remember to bring extra water, walking shoes, and sunscreen.

     

    Conrad Mansion and Ice Skating:

    Picnicking in Woodland Park, touring the Conrad Mansion, and ice skating! All campers will be going on this adventure on Thursday! You are signed up for this when you sign up for your camp above. This Thursday we will be traveling to Kalispell where our first stop will be to take a tour of the Conrad Mansion, then off to Woodland Park for a picnic lunch. After lunch we will head to Whitefish where we will finish our adventure by ice skating at the Whitefish Ice Rink.
